You’ve heard of different face shapes, eye shapes, and overall body shapes, but did you know there’s a handful {wink wink} of booty shapes?
Get to know your shape and what the best bottoms are to boost your booty!
Use this graphic as a guide to the panty styles I reference, but also realize that when you're looking around at styles online they might use different names or have all kinds of variations on these styles. Go for the general principles of how to pick out panties for your booty shape.
According to BUTT EXPERTS there’s 4-5 different categories your assets can fit into:
1. Round
AKA BUBBLE BUTT....the most famous of butts. These are the gravity defying booties that are equally full all the way around the round. Top and bottom are equally full and you've likely done a lot of squats to get there.
If you've got a round booty, you want to consider removing enough fabric to make that bubble POP. Show off the fullness and shape by opting for less coverage.
Go for: Thongs, tangas, super cheeky cuts, cuts with high leg openings that sit above the booty. Simple solid color styles with ruching at the center seam can also be flattering. Consider more minimal styles (solid colors, seamless) to make the round booty the center piece.
Avoid: Full coverage panties, busy patterns or designs
2. Heart / A
For the sake of this article, I'm going to combine the heart and A shape booties because the advice is the same. Both heart and A shape booties are fuller at the bottom of the bottom. They also tend to have fuller upper thighs.
This shape also needs to go for cuts that will show off their curves and accentuate their natural booty volumptuosity. You want to make sure the fullness at the bottom is shown off, but you can consider adding details at the tops of the panty (like lace, extra straps, patterns, ruching, etc.) to add visual weight to the top part of your butt/hips. If you have shorter legs and/or thicc thighs try out some high waisted panties that still have plenty of room for your cheeks to be free.
Go for: Cheeky cuts, thongs with wider straps (or multiple thin straps), Brazilian, tangas, and hipsters so long as they're super cheeky. Details at the top part of the underwear (again, extra straps, lace, patterns, ruching, etc.)
Avoid: Thongs with a thin strap (like T strings...some heart shape booties can pull it off though, so it's not a hard rule), anything with small/low leg openings, full coverage panties
3. V (or inverted triangle)
V shaped booties are fuller at the top, with most volume at the hips and less full at the bottom of the bottom and thighs.
For V shaped booties, we want to add more volume and visual weight at the bottom. Anything that’s cut in the V shape (like a thong or other styles with more material at the top that narrows to the bottom) will accentuate your V shape, so think about panties that have more of a rounded bottom. Fun and frilly bottoms are your friend here! Scalloped edges will do wonders for you, as will panties with textures and prints.
Go for: Anything with lower leg openings, like full coverage panties and bikinis, boyshorts, briefs, booty shorts, and hipsters. Even something like silky lounge/sleepwear flowy bottoms are great (get something short enough that you can see at least the bottom part of your bum though!). Definitely consider details at the bottom, especially scalloped edges, and lace.
Avoid: High cut leg openings, thongs, V shaped anything.
4. H (or square)
H (or square) shape booties are equally wide at the top, center, and bottom. They tend to have higher hip bones, and can be both flat and wide.
For H shapes we want to add more curve throughout your lower body and fullness in the booty. Fun and frilly details will be super beneficial to you! Add textures, lace, ruching, and prints, especially in the places you want to fill in volume.
Garter sets (high at the waist) can also be an amazing option for H shapes, especially if you have a more rectangular body.
Go for: High or mid-waist cuts with high leg openings, brazilian or bikini cuts with ruching or other details/prints. Cheeky cuts...again with details and textures. You can also pull off boyshorts with a fun pattern. Garter sets.
Avoid: Anything too minimal, thin strap thongs, full coverage panties
The most important thing for all booty types...
Get the right size!!
No matter the shape or size, the most important things is…get the correct size! This means if you’re ordering online, definitely measure yourself and consult the measurements on the site. For bras and bottoms you want to err on the side of getting the larger fit (so for many woman you actually get a size larger on underwear than your normal size for pants or skirts).
Go for: sizes that lay smooth on your body, giving you a gentle hug of affection
Avoid: any materials digging into and indenting your skin, or anything that sags too loosely
I’ll also say that if you want to see some different styles on all the different body types, Savage X Fenty in particular is great for featuring many different sizes and shapes of gorgeous ladies and their beautiful booties. I think they actually have some hits and misses on pairing the right booties with the right bottoms, which is kinda great because it'll show you want to wear and what not to wear for your shape.
Ultimately the best thing you can do is try on many different options and find out what makes YOU feel sexy!
