Prep Leading Up to the Shoot
Pamper Yourself
Seriously, treat yourself like a goddess.
Hair & makeup trial
Trial your hair and makeup before your session. I do not photoshop on makeup and makeup mistakes will not be photoshopped, so do not rely on or ask for that.
One of the big differences between a fun sized and a full session is that for this session it's your responsibility to arrange your own hair and makeup. All of my MUAs are busy doing weddings on Saturdays/Sundays, and you'll likely find that's the case for any other MUAs you reach out to. Salons might be an exception to this - check your local salons and/or blow out bars to see if they have availability on your date.
The good news is that you're not totally alone here! YouTube, IG, and TikTok are FULL of tutorials on how to do your own hair and makeup. The benefit is that once you have the knowledge, skill, and products, you'll be able to doll yourself up whenever you want! Figure out what style you want in the shoot and search for that.
I would recommend avoiding complicated hair and makeup styles unless you already have experience with them. Especially anything that needs a precise hand or symmetry (cat eyes and winged liner, I'm looking at you!) Many of my full length boudoir clients, who have access to MUAs, still opt for a more natural look because it's timeless and classic. You don't need full glam to look gorgeous! (But if full glam is your style and you know how to do it, then glam the house down, girl!)
Make sure your makeup matches your complexion - THIS IS HIGHLY IMPORTANT. If you can get professionally color matched, even just at Sephora or Ulta, this will save you from having a face color/tone that doesn't match your neck.
Consider your outfit and the set of the mini when choosing your eye makeup. Neutrals are a safe bet, but feel free to add color that matches your skin tone and your outfit selections.
Make sure your hair can move. It can be tempting to solve your problems of volume, lack of body, ability to hold a curl, etc. by plastering your hair in hair spray, but this simply won't look good. You'll need blow dry technique for volume/body. And for curls, if you know your hair really won't hold a curl then skip it OR learn to pin or roll your hair. Hair spray is just the final step in a good blow out / style.
No matter what you do, definitely give it a trial at least a week before your session, so that if you need to change anything you have time to do so.
Nails
I recommend getting your nails done 1-3 days before the shoot so they look polished and photo ready. Chipped nails are super distracting and not a good look. And bare nails can show dirt and grime underneath. Keep your outfit colors in mind - try not to clash. Neutrals are a great choice. Consider avoiding bold colors, especially red, because this will draw attention straight to your nails instead of your other...assets.
Facial
Avoid charcoal masks before your shoot because they can cause break outs in order to clear out your pores (if you do this kind of mask, do it at least a couple weeks before your session). Also avoid chemical peels and anything that might inflame the skin. For over the counter masks, look for ones that say hydrating and/or calming. Booking a hydrofacial a week before the shoot will give you a fresh, dewy look & is an amazing way to treat yourself. Spa day? Yes please!
Exfoliate
You know your skin best and don't experiment with anything new right before the shoot, especially if you have sensitive skin. Dry brushing, sugar scrubs, exfoliating pads, etc. are a great way to slough off any older skin and leave you looking bright and shiny. Personally, for my body I use regular coffee grounds - mix coffee grounds with just enough water to make a paste and rub all over your skin.
Lip scrub
Dry, flaky lips are not something you're going to want to see in your images - and editing them is not possible. Get ahead of it by scrubbin your smoocher in the days leading up to your shoot. You can easily just use your toothbrush on your lips before or after brushing your teeth and then generously apply a good lip balm. Or use a lip scrub - it's easy to make your own with sugar and your oil of choice! I generally just put a little bit of sugar in my palm and then add a dash of oil, then do a little scrubby scrub.
Double up on lotion or body oil
On the week leading up to your session, use a quality moisturizer or body oil twice a day. I like sweet almond oil and/or tallow based butters the best because it absorbs so quickly but still feels super nourishing. This is a great time to say some loving affirmations to yourself about your body! Morning and night give your body and spirit some loooooove
Body hair
If you love your body hair and rock bushy arms, pits, legs...wherever, that's amazing bring on all the fur. If you opt for smooth skin, I recommend sugaring a few days to a week or so before your session and/or shaving the day of your shoot so you're not stubbly anywhere. Use a fresh, sharp razor to do any shaving so you're as smooth as can be. I do not edit extensive stubble.
Head hair: touch up roots / get a trim
If you dye your hair, make sure you touch it up before the shoot. And if you need to trim or refresh your haircut, schedule that before the session.
Make a playlist
I've got a good set of speakers and a Spotify membership - let's crank some tunes that will make you feel like yourself, having fun, and confident.
Get your stretch on
Particularly on the day of the shoot, I recommend doing some nice stretches to loosen up your body. Posing can be a workout! Even poses that look effortless can feel really unnatural. Give your arms, neck, legs, and especially back a good stretch before coming in - your body will thank you!
Sleep
Get good sleep leading up to the shoot: especially the night before the session, get some good zzzzs in. Maybe take a bubble bath the night before (add some oil to the water and it'll be so nice on your skin).
Calendar your prep
Make a timeline of when you need to have your beauty treatments and put them in your calendar so that you remember to schedule and/or do the prep.

Major Don'ts
Spray Tan (do not)
You might not see streaks or color aberrations, but cameras "see" differently than your eyeballs and will pick up some nasty looking stuff on your body without you being aware. You will also photograph looking very orange. If you regularly get tanned by a professional you might be ok. But at home tanners are an absolute NO. Do not wear tinted lotions or bronzers. (Or anything else that can come off on my sheets)
Experimental hair (do not)
Getting a trim or touching up your dye a few weeks before the shoot is great, but please don't try out something completely new. Right before a photoshoot is not the best time to experiment with a whole new look.
Party the night before (do not)
Hangovers aren't sexy. Puffiness and low energy are not what we want - we want radiance, glow, and excitement. If you're feeling nervous take a bubble bath or do some yoga.
Drink heading into the shoot (do not)
Drunk doesn't photograph well. One drink before the session is fine and will get you feeling great without a lazy my-face-is-sliding-off look.
Guidelines for What to Wear
Figuring out what to wear for your photoshoot can be intimidating, but don't sweat it - we can do a lot with very simple, minimal pieces. Here's some tips to think about your wardrobe options.
Only Bring What You Love
If you're on the fence about an item, don't bring it. The sexiest thing you can wear is confidence. If a certain piece makes you feel less than great, skip it. You don't need me as a second opinion if a big part of you is saying no - that's ok, listen to it.
Try On Everything You Bring BEFORE The Shoot
Depending on your booking option, you'll either be shooting in one or two outfits. You're welcome to bring an extra 1 or 2 outfits to get my opinion, but please try on everything before you come in. I can make suggestions, but these are your photos and your opinion is the most important one.
Get Fitted
Wearing a properly fitted bra set is super important - an improperly fitting set will dig into your skin, which is both uncomfortable and not a good look, and won't properly support or accentuate your features. Here's an article on measuring your bra size that is helpful if you can't make it into a local spot. But I highly recommend going to a local lingerie boutique to support a small business and be properly fitted. And if you're wearing thigh highs, go a size or two up to that they don't dig in and give you muffin top legs. Remember, all your items should lay flat against your skin - so go a size up if you need to. Are they creating indentations in your body that aren't there without that piece? That's a sure sign it's too small.
Cut your tags (even the sewn in ones) and stray strings
Before coming to the shoot, cut ALL the tags off your lingerie. Even the sewn in ones (like the branding and washing info). And if there are any plastic hanging loops or just frayed strings, cut those as well.
Press or steam if needed
If your item is wrinkly, please steam or press it beforehand and be careful when you're transporting it that it is hung or laid flat to avoid re-wrinkling.
Pick colors that match the set design
Make sure you pay attention to the background color and set design for your mini session and choose colors/styles that will compliment it (and you). You can go on Pinterest and search for color palettes for inspo.
Pick colors that match your color season
This is essentially extra credit, but I do suggest understanding your color season so you can select colors and tones that will match your features the best. Here's a video that breaks down the basics of finding your color season. There's plenty of info on YouTube, IG, and TikTok for finding and matching your color season. Once you have your season, go on Pinterest and search for color palettes for your season.
A note about wearing just the sheet:
If you want to wear just the plain white sheet, or a blanket, this counts as an outfit. I do NOT recommend this as your only outfit, as it will severely limit the amount of quality poses we can do. So only do this if you've opted for the booking with 2 outfits. Also if you want to wear just the sheet, but want some form of coverage down below - look up "C-string" thongs, which will give you the nude look with a bit of coverage.
Avoid:
- Neon colors (they will cast weird colors on your face/body)
- Ill fitting items (too tight/too loose)
- Worn out items with stains, holes, pilling fabric
- Wrinkled clothes (press beforehand)
- Loose baby doll lingerie (it will make you look bigger)
How to Dress for Your Body Type
DRESSING FOR YOUR BODY TYPE
CURVY BODIES
- Wear form fitting items! Think bodysuits, fitted slips, fitted (and possibly sheer) dresses, and high waisted knickers. Loose items will make you look bigger and shapeless. The exception here is for sheer/see through items (such as chiffon or lace robes), but even then make sure it has a defined waist.
- Defining your waist is essential. You can do this through corsets, especially "basque" styles that have a waist cinch or line around the waist. You can also opt for high waisted panties that really help to accentuate the waist.
- Remember I will pose you so that we can see your figure and celebrate it!
SQUISHY MIDDLE BITS
- If you're super self-conscious about your middle bits...please bring things other than two-pieces. You're better off sticking to fuller coverage items. So if you do decide on a two piece, opt for high waisted bottoms. But for most of your wardrobe, think items like slips, sheer dresses, chemise lingerie, corsets, and body suits. Avoid any "baby doll" one pieces with excess fabric around your middle though because they wind up making you look bigger.
FLAT-BUTTS
- V Shape booties should stay away from V shaped bottoms (thongs or any type of bottom that has a strong taper like a V).
- Opt for fuller coverage bottoms, like boy shorts, briefs, bikinis, full panties
- Go for details: colors, patterns, lace, scalloped edges, anything that creates visual weight at the bottom of your booties. Even the cute silky lounge/nightwear bottoms (as long as they're short enough to see some booty peeking out)
- Play around in the mirror with different styles to see what you like best. And don’t worry, I’m a PRO at creating curves in posing where there aren’t any otherwise! I can get a killer booty shot with any level of curve (or lack thereof).
SHORTER LEGS
- High waisted bottoms, especially with high leg openings will give you legs for days
- High heels with a THIN heel rather than chunky! Avoid shoes with thick ankle straps or a square toe. Nude shoes naturally elongate the legs.
THIN/NO CURVE
- That’s all in the posing-girl! Form fitting options work great as I pose the heck out of you to make you look and feel bodacious.
- Consider thinner straps to make your body look bigger, or add details like lace and scalloped edges, so long as they aren't so big they're swallowing you up
- Teddies and body suits can be very flattering - especially the ones with high waist/leg openings
- Pull your thong up to sit on top of your hip bones or even all the way to your waist to give more curve
SMALL CHEST
- Simple bralettes are lovely for AA-A size (lace bralettes with a large v is my personal favorite for small chested women!) And also, small boobs rock. So please don’t feel the NEED to create extra “oomph” with a padded bra unless it’s something that really concerns you.
- If you're "pear" shaped and want to balance out your curvy bottom, try a top that has either a wide neck line and/or has some flowy fabric or a beautiful lace design up top
MOM BOOBS
If your breasts are a bit lower or “floppier” than you’d like them to be, just be sure to snag a bra with some support, or form fitting bodysuits with a cup that will keep them at bay. Posing will play a huge role here, and I’m really good at that. So…bring your mom boobs my way and we’ll embrace the hell out of them!
Places to Buy Lingerie
Local Shops
The best place you can shop is local - supporting local businesses is great, plus you get to try on things in the store. Do a Google search to find local lingerie stores near you.
Online
No matter where you shop online, make sure you're getting your measurements and checking those against the measurements listed on the website. Lawd knows women's clothing sizes make no sense and are pure chaos - avoid getting the wrong size by measuring, and/or get multiple sizes and return what doesn't fit.
I hate to say it, but in a pinch you can find some decent options on Amazon. There's unfortunately a lot of garbage though.

What to Bring on the Day of Your Session
Some ATTITUDE
Good attitude. Rebel attitude. Ready to go attitude. It's an experience. The first bit is relaxing and indulgent: a little chat and some relaxing, grounding breath work. Then we GET TO WORK. No really, you might feel like you had a workout after it's over. Modeling means holding poses - and those lounging beauty poses have more to them than the photo lets on. Do some stretches before you come in - you're body will thank you!
Arrive on time
This is a mini session - so it's important to arrive on time for your session. If you arrive late, you do not get extra time. For the overachievers out there, on time does NOT mean 15 minutes early. I might be with another client or still doing set up. If you're coming from farther away, there are many lovely places in Sebastopol to grab a coffee if you get here early.
Wardrobe
Pack your bag the night before and double check that you have all the pieces to your outfits. Make sure you've removed all the tags (even the sewn in ones), removed any stray strings, and removed any wrinkles.
Come wearing loose fitting clothes
Skip the jeans and the tight workout clothes - wear something to your session that is loose fitting and won't leave marks on your skin.
Hair/makeup ready to go as soon as you walk in
This is a mini session - so time is important. You'll need to be ready to go as soon as you walk into the studio. If you're driving a ways, make sure you have time to do any touch ups you need in the car before coming in.
Clean feet
Yes...clean feet. Please wash your feet well because more than likely we'll see the bottom of your feet in the photos and we don't want them to look dirty. This also means you might need to wear fresh shoes or wear socks to the studio. I cannot edit dirty feet, so you'll need to give 'em a good scrubbadubdub on the day of the shoot.
Extra cash (or card)
All purchase decisions will be made at your session. There are NO online galleries available for unpurchased images you want to decide on later. We will review your images immediately after the photoshoot and that's when you'll make your final selections. You get a 5% discount when you pay with cash. It's a good idea to come prepared...because you're going to love your photos!!
Bring your acne, stretch marks, bruises, cellulite, period bloated belly, and your "I'm not photogenic face"
I promise you're still going to look stunning in these images. Don't feel like you need to cancel because Mt. Vesuvius is erupting on your forehead, or because you're feeling a bit bloated with your period, or for any other body shaming reason. You are not the exception - you are the norm. These things are common and no reason to break your stride. Everyone gets a retouch - acne is always taken out, and if you want your stretch marks, cellulite, and bloated belly gone they can be. Posing and lighting will frame you in a beautiful light and show off the artfulness of your curves.
